Fabric & Care Guide
Premium materials deserve thoughtful care.
Last updated: May 2026
Our garments are made from premium natural and responsible materials. They are not fast fashion. They are designed to last, and with the right care, they will. This guide covers the main fabrics in our collections and how to care for them properly.
Care instructions specific to each garment are printed on the inner care label and listed on the product page. Always follow the care label as the primary reference.
OUR FABRICS
SILK
What it is. We use Italian silk sourced from heritage mills. Silk is a natural protein fibre, lightweight, breathable, and with a natural lustre that deepens over time with proper care.
Care instructions
- Dry clean recommended for structured silk pieces
- Hand wash only for lightweight silk in cold water (below 30°C) with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent
- Do not wring or twist. Press gently in a clean towel to remove excess water
- Dry flat, away from direct sunlight and heat
- Iron on the lowest setting, inside out, while slightly damp
- Do not tumble dry
What to avoid. Perfume, deodorant, and cosmetics in direct contact with silk. These cause irreversible staining and fibre degradation over time. Apply all products before dressing.
VIRGIN WOOL
What it is. Virgin wool refers to wool that has not been previously used or recycled. It retains the full natural elasticity and insulating properties of the raw fibre. We source our virgin wool from Italian heritage mills and European suppliers with decades of craft legacy.
Care instructions
- Dry clean recommended for tailored wool pieces
- Hand wash only for knitwear in cold water with wool-specific detergent
- Do not wring. Roll in a towel and dry flat to preserve shape
- Store folded, never hung. Hanging causes wool to stretch irreversibly over time
- Air between wears rather than washing after every use
- Use a clothes brush to remove surface dust and lint
- Cedar blocks in storage to deter moths naturally
What to avoid. High heat in any form, whether in washing, drying, or ironing. Heat causes irreversible shrinkage. Never tumble dry.
TENCEL™ (LYOCELL)
What it is. Tencel is a branded lyocell fibre made from sustainably sourced wood pulp through a closed-loop production process that recycles water and solvents. It is soft, breathable, and biodegradable.
Care instructions
- Machine wash on a gentle or delicate cycle at 30°C
- Use a mild detergent. Avoid biological or enzyme-based detergents
- Dry flat or hang to dry. Avoid tumble drying where possible
- Iron on a medium setting while slightly damp
- Tencel softens and improves with washing over time
CUPRO
What it is. Cupro is a regenerated cellulose fibre made from cotton linter, a by-product of cotton processing that would otherwise go to waste. It is sometimes called vegan silk for its fluid drape and smooth hand feel.
Care instructions
- Hand wash in cold water or machine wash on delicate at 30°C
- Use a gentle detergent
- Do not wring. Dry flat or hang away from direct sunlight
- Iron inside out on a low to medium setting
VISCOSE
What it is. Viscose is a semi-synthetic fibre derived from wood cellulose. It drapes beautifully, feels lightweight, and takes dye exceptionally well. Our viscose pieces have a depth of colour and fluidity that is difficult to achieve with other materials.
Care instructions
- Hand wash only in cold water. Viscose is significantly weaker when wet and distorts easily
- Do not wring or rub. Gently squeeze and press in a clean towel
- Dry flat, reshaping while damp
- Iron inside out on a low setting while still slightly damp
- Do not machine wash unless the care label specifically states it is safe to do so
COTTON
What it is. We use high-quality natural cotton selected for weight, weave, and hand feel. Cotton is a breathable, durable natural fibre that becomes softer with wear and washing over time.
Care instructions
- Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle
- Use a mild detergent. Avoid bleach or optical brighteners
- Tumble dry on low if needed, but air drying preserves shape and fibre quality best
- Iron on a medium to high setting while slightly damp for a clean finish
- Store folded or hung. Cotton holds its shape well in either position
What to avoid. High-temperature washing, which can cause shrinkage, particularly on first wash. When in doubt, wash cold on the first cycle.
BLENDED FABRICS
Some KASAI pieces incorporate carefully considered fabric blends. Where a synthetic component appears in a blend, it is never a cost substitute for a natural alternative. It is a deliberate material choice made because the specific fabric, texture, or technical property we are working with cannot be authentically achieved in a fully natural construction.
In all such cases, the garment lining, the layer in direct contact with your skin, is made from 100% natural fabric. This ensures breathability and skin comfort regardless of the outer or structural composition.
Blend composition for each garment is stated on the product page and care label. For care of blended pieces, always follow the garment care label, which reflects the most delicate fibre present in the construction.
GENERAL CARE PRINCIPLES
Store intentionally. Fold knits. Hang structured pieces on padded or wooden hangers. Never compress or stack garments for extended periods.
Wash less. Natural fibres breathe. Most garments benefit from airing between wears rather than frequent washing. Over-washing degrades fibre and shortens garment life.
Address stains immediately. Blot, do not rub. Cold water first. If in doubt, take the garment to a professional dry cleaner before attempting home treatment.
Avoid direct contact with fragrance and cosmetics. Apply before dressing, allow to dry, then put on your garment. This single habit will significantly extend the life of every piece.
